Hi John, when I was there there were plenty of places to say, though closer to what I would call accommodations rather than hotels.I wasn’t there in rainy season so I couldn’t say the best time to visit but it makes sense that would be the best time to go. Propbably best to check weather and other travel websites, also for travel, as I travelled almost everywhere in the country by bus.

Are there hotels close by? I live in Oceanside California and would like to come down in July, that is the best time right? I could fly down or motor, Im guessing fly to Oaxaca?

Hi Ceed, thanks for visiting the site. I agree that it would be best to go to San Jose in season if possible. However, it doesn’t always line up for everyone. I was there in off season, over a new year period, and had what was one of the best weeks of my life. Alan Watts and JJ Cale both combined beautifully with the mushies and the views are well… something else. Though I have to admit that the mushies weren’t very potent then, and getting them fresh would surely be better. Good tip to ask around too, generally a good idea when shopping in new places. Hi Philippa, I was there at the end of 2016 and start of 2017. I don’t know how much has changed since then but I’m sure you’ll still be able find some mushies there… and the views really are sublime.
